I started taking the train (with a little bus and walking) about a month ago, but on the hallowed Transportation Day of the experiment, I crapped out! I woke up 40 minutes late and jumped in the car. Lo, the guilt. But I'm going to try to focus on the positive, namely the fact that after living in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles for eight years, I finally decided to brave the train.
I wrote
about it on my blog here. The first half is a tutorial for folks out in the Los Angeles area. The last half is a bit more personal and political, as I grapple with the reality that I had become immune to the horror of a war over oil, despite the fact that a member of my family has had to dodge bullets and transport bodies. All so that we can continue to live our convenient, unobstructed lives. Oy.
