I know I made some unnecessary "trash" today - I used a couple of brand new compostable cups for tea being offered at an event I did food for... I actually had brought my own mug (as part of the tupperware pack I started in compliance with No Impact week) but it was across the street in the car because in the mayhem of getting everything set up for the event, the last thing on my mind was bringing in my to-go mug, and the other last thing on my mind was going to get it when I wanted to try the tea and there was a line of people waiting for me to serve them soup.

Basically, all of my inadherence to the goals set forth each day is due to lack of better planning. BETTER PLANNING is what you need to have No Impact. I need to work on that.

By the way, the food part of this for me is not totally out of control because my catering business model has been to put a lot of effort into sourcing produce-driven dishes locally, organically, and seasonally. I did find when calculating my carbon food-print that the bacon I sprinkled into my bean dish (that I made) ratcheted up my score considerably (1224 for the whole day, not just lunch), as did my coffee - WHICH GOD FORBID I GIVE UP - I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet at some point like Colin's wife, but that is going to be my greatest challenge in life yet...

Although I would have generated close to no waste by bringing my own food I did minimize my take out impact by bringing my own bag. The only waste I generated was the paper my Subway sandwich was wrapped in. I didn't order a drink or chips. Brought it back to the office and had it with a Starbucks Via in my reusable mug. The only waste was the via packet and the wrapping paper for the sandwich. Not perfect but sets me on the right track for tomorrow by planning ahead tonight.

I won't be saving bathroom waste at work either. Rather i'm logging how much i toss out. Same with food waste since I'm not going to set it aside in a separate container for the week. I'll save all forms of 'clean packaging' like paper.

I'm off to a good start. only through away a tiny starbucks via packet so far today. and didn't go to the coffee house earlier because i forgot my reusable travel mug at home.

Although I forgot to make a lunch so i'm going to head to Subway for lunch and see how much waste I can save by not including a drink and bringing my own to go bag. This way I'll just have the sandwich.

Already have sent TP down the toilet 3 times. Not much per use, but this is waste, I'm not setting it aside in my 3 trash bags. Gosh, its only 11 am and I have already accumulated a recyclable cardboard TP core, a recyclable canister that held honey and a tiny piece of TP which I blew my nose into after sneezing. (I ma now using a cloth hankie, which is easy.) Food waste is easy because we compost. Its the recyclables that are piling up. Yikes!

I made my list of things I need to buy this week - 3 garden wall blocks. I am going to go to the salvage yard first to see if I can find them there, otherwise I will purchase them from a local hardware store.
Having planned a grocery shopping trip yesterday, I was able to spend today with friends and family. We spent the entire day outside helping to harvest grapes in our friend's vineyard. A cooperative effort, we harvested 1400 lbs. of grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, enjoyed a lovely harvest lunch together. I stayed after lunch and helped press the crushed Chardonnay. For my efforts, I will enjoy a case of wine made from this harvest!
